3 Maintenance Tips for Drywall & Gypsum Ceiling

Want your house to always look brand-new?

Here are some tips that you can try at home to maintain the cleanliness of your Drywall & Gypsum Ceiling:

  1. Clean Your Drywall & Gypsum Ceiling Regularly

Over time, drywall and gypsum ceiling in your house will be covered with dust particles, this can cause black stains on the ceiling & drywall.

Simple step you can do is to clean your drywall and gypsum ceiling regularly at least once every two weeks. It’s easy to do, clean it with a dry cloth or long duster to reach the ceiling. Cleaning drywall & ceiling will also make your indoor air circulation cleaner and fresher.

  2. Avoid Water Exposure

The paper on gypsum board surface functioned as bonding, any harm to the paper will affect gypsum board strength, including water exposure will reduce the strength of the gypsum board if it is exposed to water directly and continuously. Besides, it also can cause mold which will later form yellowish-black stains and cause damage to the gypsum ceiling & drywall.

As a precautionary measure, do periodic checks for any leaks on your roof so it can be addressed immediately. For example, check it by dousing your roof with water or use garden hose to spray it to find out if there is any leak. If damage or leaks are found, repair your roof before installing gypsum ceilings & drywall.

  3. Use Waterproof Coating

As a protective measure to ensure your gypsum board is safe from splashes of water, it is recommended to use a layer of waterproof coating or paint on the surface of the gypsum board, especially on areas that are prone to water exposure, such as bathrooms and kitchens.

You can also choose gypsum board that has moisture-resistant performance such as Wet-Area Optimum™ gypsum board as a ceiling or drywall option that is specifically designed with moisture-resistant performance.
